Practice Groups
Minnows
Swimmers are still learning the four strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. They are not quite ready to swim long distances independently. Requirements: 8 and under must be able to swim 25 yards (one lap) of at least one stroke. 9-10 year olds must be able to swim 50 yards (two laps) of at least one stroke.
Dolphins
Swimmers have a basic understanding of all the strokes, but technique instruction is still a major focus. They can swim longer distances and are learning starts, turns, and finishes. Requirements: Must be able to swim 100 consecutive yards of at least one stroke without stopping and be able to swim one lap of each stroke.
Stingrays
Swimmers are able to swim all four strokes correctly, but are still working on enhancing stroke technique. They are building endurance and learning proper technique for starts, turns, and strokes. Requirements: Must be able to swim 200 consecutive yards of at least one stroke without stopping, be able to swim a legal 100 IM, and be able to complete 6x50's of Freestyle on a 60 second interval. All new swimmers 13 and over will automatically be moved into this group once they are comfortable.
Sharks
Swimmers are able to swim all four strokes legally. These swimmers are perfecting technique and building endurance. Requirements: Must be able to swim 400 consecutive yards without stopping, be able to swim a legal 200 IM, and be able to complete 6x50's of Freestyle on a 50 second interval.
